Stella McCartney's New Upcycled Socks
Statement socks, including tights, leggings, and thigh highs as well, have been trending. And not only did Stella McCartney take advantage of this trend, but she also used this opportunity to raise awareness on the importance of our need for more sustainable and ethical fashion products. These "Stella Socks" that she's created are made with 85% upcycled yarn, and zero chemicals, dyes, or pesticides were used in their production. This means they created zero waste, as well. Along with the unspoken statement that is made with this product, she also wrote on her website saying that this is something extremely important to her brand and that they plan on working even more to eliminate textile waste.
It's so refreshing to see a big name designer really voice their opinion on the textile waste epidemic and see that they're actively combating the problem. Not only am I hopeful that this will wake up certain consumers who still look the other way when it comes to the amount of waste the fashion industry produces, but I'm also hopeful that other big designers will take this as a wake up call too. I think this stance that Stella McCartney has taken will have a strong, positive influence on the fashion industry as a whole and I'm excited to see where it goes and am grateful for this initiative that McCartney has taken.
