Stella McCartney's New Upcycled Socks

Statement socks, including tights, leggings, and thigh highs as well, have been trending. And not only did Stella McCartney take advantage of this trend, but she also used this opportunity to raise awareness on the importance of our need for more sustainable and ethical fashion products. These "Stella Socks" that she's created are made with 85% upcycled yarn, and zero chemicals, dyes, or pesticides were used in their production. This means they created zero waste, as well. Along with the unspoken statement that is made with this product, she also wrote on her website saying that this is something extremely important to her brand and that they plan on working even more to eliminate textile waste. It's so refreshing to see a big name designer really voice their opinion on the textile waste epidemic and see that they're actively combating the problem. Not only am I hopeful that this will wake up certain consumers who still look the other way when it comes to th

Is Amazon Becoming A Monopoly That Needs To Be Broken Up?

This article addresses how large Amazon has become and peoples' concerns about its growth and control. Amazon continues increasing its presence in multiple markets all at once, resulting in its smaller competitors' failing businesses. The article quotes both the former CEO of Walmart, Bill Simon, and Donald Trump on their concerns and dislikes of Amazon's growing power.   Although I would have never imagined before that there'd be an issue where I'd actually agree with Donald Trump and a former CEO of a large, greedy corporation, here I am. I agree with both Trump and Simon that Amazon is destroying too many of its competitors and as it only grows stronger, it may begin monopolizing certain markets. Although both Simon and Trump almost certainly voiced their concerns from the point of view of business men who feel threatened, they did end up shedding light on something more people need to open their eyes up to. Amazon, like Walmart, is a large, greedy corpora

D.C. Day 2

Today was my last day in Washington D.C. We spent the morning getting an early brunch and walking around different museums. When we went to the Museum of Natural History, there was an exhibit that actually matched my outfit! Today I wore a simple black and white polka dot crop top ( us.asos.com ) and black leggings. I accessorized with various crystal necklaces and rings. The exhibit we visited was on gems and crystals, and I was able to identify every crystal I was wearing in the exhibit! Today I was wearing a blue calcite necklace, a clear quartz necklace, a hematite ring, a blue lace agate ring, and a kyanite ring.  Crystals I wore: Clear Quartz Necklace and Blue Calcite Necklace - $20 each , both from the FIT flea market  Hematite and Blue Lace Agate rings - $8 , stickstonebone.com Kyanite ring - $35 , annickdesigns.com

D.C. Day 1

This weekend, I'm spending a couple days in Washington D.C. And I am most definitely taking advantage of the warmer weather fashion wise. My inspiration for my outfit today came from one of my pinterest boards that I created for my aesthetic/style inspiration when I study abroad in Florence. The board is filled with a lot of blouses, smooth textures, light fabrics, flowy clothes, and the vibe overall is mostly summery. Here's a piece of what it looks like: My outfit today consisted of a red blouse, black jeans, black vans, and a black faux fur cropped hoodie jacket. I accessorized with a silver circle black belt, an amethyst necklace, a brass ring, and long, sparkly, gold statement earrings. Outfit:  Blouse - us.asos.com , $45  Black Jeans - nyandcompany.com , $30  Vans - marshallsonline.com , $25  Jacket - marshallsonline.com , $30  Belt - us.asos.com , $9  Amethyst Necklace - annickdesigns.com , $45  Brass Ring - annickdesigns.com , $6  The st

Fashion News: Athleisure Beauty Products

This article includes an interview with an industry expert on the creation and growth of athleisure beauty products. They discuss how as more and more people adapt to a healthier, more active lifestyle, consumers now want beauty products that fit this lifestyle as well. The target consumer for these kinds of products would be millennials, as 72% of them workout at least once a week, more than any other generation. These products would serve aesthetic functions, such as makeup that doesn’t budge during a workout, or a functional benefit, like a foundation that provides a cooling sensation when applied. The reason this article caught my eye, is because I had no idea that athleisure extended to beauty products. And even though this article is from this month, this idea has actually been a thing for a little while now and yet I never heard about it before. Upon reading this article, I really don’t understand the point of the products. They write that the creation of athleisure beauty produ

Fashion News: Growth in Ethical Fashion and Gen Z Fashion Icons

Vogue’s article, Could Sadie Sink Become the New Face of Ethical Fashion?, discusses the rise of both young fashion icons and ethical clothing brands. The article states that Sink has joined the “gen z fashion powerhouse” alongside Millie Bobby Brown and Zendaya. The article covers how Sink promoted her friend Rooney Mara’s new vegan clothing line on her instagram, donning an outfit from the new line. I really enjoyed this article because a) I’m all for ethical and sustainable fashion and I think this new clothing line is a good step in the right direction, and b) I love seeing younger celebrities voicing their support for good causes and spreading awareness through social media. This was also a great move on Mara’s part, by utilizing social media/influencer marketing, and also for Sink, as she was able to step forward in the fashion game. There are many celebrities that publicly support certain brands, but not enough that support ethical and sustainable brands and there needs to be mo

A Day with Wendy

Today, I had the privilege to model on the Wendy Williams Show! The segment they used me for was called ‘Trend Remix’ where they partnered up the models to showcase this season’s trends in two different ways. They styled me in the metallic/high shine trend and I got the more casual outfit while the other model got the more professional/business look. I was styled by Melissa Garcia, an on-air fashion and lifestyle correspondent and celebrity stylist. All the outfits she picked out for the show today came from ruelala.com . My outfit for the show wasn't my typical style or aesthetic, but I love trying out new clothes and looks and branching out into different pieces I normally wouldn't wear! Here are the brands I wore: Metallic Skirt - Endless Rose , endlessrose.com $66 on Ruelala , originally $100 Basic Tank - Velvet by Graham and Spencer , velvet-tees.com $28 on Ruelala , originally $86 Sneakers - Soludos , soludos.com $60 on Ruelala , originally
